Blackheart Tattoo Case Study:

The Need:

This San Francisco-based tattoo shop has been collecting headlines in style and tattoo magazines for over a decade. Tim Lehi, Jeff Rasier, and Scott Silvia, a "who's who" of Bay Area tattoo artists purchased their workspace in The Mission district on the corner of Duboce and Valencia in 1996. They've since brought in the up-and-coming Nick Rodin, who has proven to be an excellent addition to their staff of tattooing legends. Both local and national tattoo aficionados have been making their trek here ever since. With appointment books filled up to a year in advance, it was finally time to develop a showcase for recent tattoo works, as well as paintings for sale. 

 

The Challenge:

Spending an average of fourteen hours a day tattooing, leaves little time to learn HTML and manage a web site. Tools for site management were needed so portfolios, and shop merchandise such as t-shirts, and posters could be quickly and effortlessly posted to the site.

 

The Approach:

• A custom content management solution was developed so that each artist could log into their section of the site, create a description for the piece, then size and upload their photos
• A compelling 3-D flash introduction was created which went held to and emphasized Blackheart’s branding
• The overall site look-and-feel echoes the relationship between sketches on paper, and tattoos on human skin

 

The Results:

• Today, most people who are lucky enough to make it onto Tim Lehi, Jeff Rasier, and Scott Silvia’s appointment book comment on the web site, and reference tattoos they've seen on the site
• Blackheart tattoo has an easily manageable web site that receives excellent search engine referrals for keywords and phrases such as the coveted "tattoo" keyword, as well as each of the artists’ names
• Staff keep the web site fresh by adding photos weekly, and artists rarely need to pick up the phone to make a web site change request
• You could say that Blackheart Tattoo rounds our own online portfolio quiet nicely…and we're not only their agency of record, we're also their clients
